When Jesus would cast out a demon, sometimes it would convulse the person upon leaving. And before Satan is forced out of the world, he will give it one last, violent fit. We'll start in Revelation, chapter 11 again today, looking one last time at Jesus' Future Encounter with Demons. It's a picture of a world increasingly polarized - there are no "cultural Christians," there are only the righteous and the unashamed unrighteous. And we'll see that, even when the devil is doing his worst, God is still in charge.

The last thing Satan wants to do is to help establish the kingdom of God - but that's exactly what will happen! What are demons doing today? We've been looking at miracles of Jesus evicting demons from human hosts. But this raises the question: If demons are around today, why don't we see them or their activities more often? What are they doing? And we'll find that they're still acting according to their nature: lying, stealing and killing.

Jesus was hours away from the Cross, and the devil launched an assault on the Disciples. You remember when the Lord told Peter, "Satan has demanded to sift you like wheat...." Well, the "you" is plural. The devil was going to put all Twelve to the test. We've been looking at other-worldly miracles of Christ, which is our classification for His casting out of demons. We had to leave off yesterday with the "difficult case" waiting for Him at the base of the Mount of Transfiguration. We'll briefly revisit that. Then we'll move on to the Adversary's attack on the Disciples, and how we can defend against attacks on us.

When Jesus restored a victim of multiple demon possession to normal, He got a surprising reaction. Panic. That's what the people felt when Jesus cast the self-styled "Legion" of demons out of the man. They were "gripped with great fear," "terrified." Maybe because their religious games just got real? What's worse than a demon inhabiting a person? Several demons inhabiting a person! Jesus gave an illustration of a man freed of demonic influence...who then "gets himself together," as we would say...only to become the target of more unclean spirits. "The last state of the man becomes worse than the first." Then in Luke 8 we meet a real person controlled by multiple demons. We'll open in Matthew 12 as Pastor Jim links his previous message to this one, called, Jesus Deals with the Demonic Spirits.

"Every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but..."! There is one sin that Jesus said "shall not be forgiven." We know that's blasphemy, or "evil-speaking" of the Holy Spirit, and it certainly seems the Pharisees committed it when they accused the Lord of casting out demons as a trick of Satan. We'll look at that event, as well as the encounter with the Gadarene Demoniac and more, today. Those New Testament accounts of demon possession are what we would call mental illness today - right? And in this broadcast Jim will show us right from the text of Scripture that demon possession is not mental illness. "Know your enemy." That's some very old, and very good advice. Our enemies are not human beings, but wicked spirits, as we know from Ephesians 6. And even though we'd rather not dwell on these fallen angels, it's important to know exactly what we're up against. We continue our study of the miracles of Jesus with a look at the times He directly confronted the forces of darkness; when He cast out demons. And as we read the Gospel accounts carefully, we may unlearn some popular misconceptions.

The dead will rise again on the Last Day, yes - even Job had believed that. But what if the One who makes the Last Day "the Last Day" were here, now? Martha and Mary were about to discover that the Resurrection is a person, not a time. It's a familiar story, the raising of Lazarus.
