Jesus' death on the Cross was more than just physical death. Christians understand death as separation. Separation of the spirit from the body is one dimension. But separation from God is the greater death, and on the Cross, God the Son was alienated from the Father and the Spirit. Here's Pastor Jim to help us contemplate this dark miracle.

If "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence," what is the evidence that Jesus is God-in-flesh? In our brief series on Miracles that Jesus Performed we've seen His mastery of the physical world - for example: multiplying bread, walking on water. We've watched sickness and even death bow to Him. We've observed His complete power over the spiritual world, focusing on the times He cast out demons. And on Friday we began to look at an entirely different category of supernatural signs: Miracles Done to Jesus. These, perhaps even more than the others, testify to His deity. If you need a "voice from heaven" or even a visual transfiguration, to convince you, you'll find that these extraordinary evidences have been provided.

Jesus did many miracles for others, but what about the wonders that happened to Him? Our short series on miracles has to include those, like His virgin conception, that didn't originate with His will - humanly speaking, that is. Pastor Jim will highlight 7 of these Miracles Done to Jesus in his current sermon. These signs might be even more persuasive than His healing the sick or raising the dead. After all, the Old Testament prophets did miracles - but none of them were singled out for heaven's validation like this!

"He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him." Some people think they worship God, while rejecting Jesus. And I've even met some people who think they believe in Jesus, the Sent One, but not in the Father who sent Him. The Lord obliterated both of those options with the statements we'll look at today. He burned down the arguments of the religious leaders so thoroughly that we might almost feel sorry for them - almost. Here for a final look at John, chapter 5, is Pastor Jim.

Did Jesus claim to be God? In Part 2 of the sermon, Do You Want to be Healed? we'll hear the Lord - in the words of His enemies - "make Himself equal with God." That is, of course, blasphemy if you don't believe it, and a glorious mystery if you do. We're in the Gospel of John, chapter 5, looking at the man who was healed at the Pool of Bethesda. In this particular case Jesus does make a connection between his sickness and his sin, and He warns the man about it. Here's Pastor Jim with today's Right Start.

Why would Jesus ask a sick person whether he wants to be well? That seems like a rhetorical question, doesn't it? And maybe just a tiny bit cruel? We know that human beings often choose things that aren't in our best interest. ...And that we can enjoy the attention that comes with being sick. But maybe there's a deeper reason the Lord wanted an answer from the long-time invalid at the Pool of Bethesda. Today we begin a new sermon in our Miracles that Jesus Performed series. We often make the wrong connections between sin and sickness...but there is a connection. Jesus said that neither the man born blind nor his parents sinned to cause that specific illness. But His words to the paralytic, "Your sins are forgiven...pick up your stretcher" implicate sin as the general cause of disease. We're back in Luke 5 with Jim.

Jesus didn't need to touch the leper in order to heal him...but Jesus did touch the leper. The Lord healed 10 lepers at once just by giving them a command, which they obeyed. And only one returned to thank Him - you remember the story. So why would He touch one thoroughly diseased man who begged Him? It must have been a shocking sight. Imagine you were born blind. Darkness is the only world you know. Then suddenly...light! Color! You're in a whole new world. Today we'll revisit something Jim said yesterday about God's will, even in blindness - from Exodus 4:11 - then we'll turn to the case of the man born blind, and ask what his miracle means.

The bad news is that we are born spiritually blind. The good news is that Jesus heals blindness! We're ready for a new chapter in our study of Miracles that Jesus Performed. And there's something special, isn't there, about the Lord giving sight to the blind? It's obviously a profound gift to the person being healed, but it's also a metaphor for what the Son of God has come to do for all of us. We'll start in Mark 8 with that unusual account of the two-stage healing. Pastor Jim has an idea about the meaning of that.
