An hour after you win the Lifetime Achievement Award, your wife reminds you it's trash night. So often, after our "mountaintop" experiences, we're dropped deep into the valley. It happened to Elijah after his glorious win on Mount Carmel, and it happened to Jesus after the Mount of Transfiguration. Many who name the name of Christ don't seem to have read the chapter we're about to study today. "Why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?" Jesus put that question to the Pharisees, but He could just as well say it today to people in churches who just don't seem to grasp how much the Lord hates legalism. It's the sin that feels like holiness, so we'll need help to spot it in ourselves. Today we move into the 15th chapter of Matthew, and Jim will point out the stark contrast between man-made religion, and the doctrine of Christ. Jesus was always looking ahead. At the point we've been studying, say, two-thirds of the way through His earthly ministry, Christ is looking toward the Cross. And He's thinking about the time after that, after His resurrection and ascension, when the Disciples will be carrying on the work. On Friday we had to put our bookmark in Matthew 14. We have a hungry crowd and way too few groceries. Here's Jim to resume the story.
