What we know, and what we don't know.... If you've been with us through our series on the Judgment Seat of Christ, maybe you've been surprised by how many details we have in Scripture about that event, and its eternal consequences. God knows that we're energized by incentives - and He has given us some! Critics complain that the doctrine of "salvation by grace through faith alone" leaves no inducement for believers to behave well. And, because Christian preachers have neglected the large body of scriptures dealing with rewards, the critics may be on to something. Yes, we should be motivated by gratitude. If we knew why God is allowing our difficulties and pain, we wouldn't grumble. We would dance. There is a purpose behind the problems in our lives. The Apostle James spells it out in his letter. Let's talk about your love life. Of course I'm referring to your love for the Lord, because today we'll find out how that relationship can bring future blessings. The word "love" sure has a lot of different meanings, doesn't it? It's like the word "tempt," or "temptation:" we have to read carefully and watch the context if we want to understand what's intended. Why not become a leader? Today we'll hear 3 good reasons "why not!" Jim will make an impassioned plea for more Christian leaders, but we always need to consider what's "on the other hand." Peter provides that in his First Epistle, chapter 5. Yesterday, in thinking about The Shepherd's Crown, we listed three big responsibilities of those leading the sheep: First, they're to feed and protect, or "shepherd," God's flock. Second, they're charged with "overseeing" and guiding those under their care.

No one ever won much, without training! Christians today seem determined to enjoy the world as much as possible; we don't know much about discipline.
