Jesus wasn't "lowering the bar," but He wasn't raising the bar, either. Before our "Christmas break" we were studying the Sermon on the Mount, and we noticed how emphatically the Lord spoke about the Law and its precision, and its permanence. As we move forward in Matthew 5 we'll see Him expound and expand on the Law, but we mustn't get the idea that He's making the "narrow way" even narrower.
