The Good Shepherd; Ninety and Nine - Part 2 of 3

What happens when the sheep fire the shepherd? The Jews were accustomed to thinking of themselves as the special flock of God - even though their own scriptures revealed a pretty dismal track record of following Him. When the Shepherd finally showed up in person, there was outright revolt. But were they dismissing the Shepherd, or themselves? Maybe Jesus' fold is made up of whoever will hear His voice, and follow. The Good Shepherd; Ninety and Nine - Part 1 of 3

How did that sheep get a broken leg? We've been thinking about our relationship with the Good Shepherd. If sheep are famous for their conformity, that would be a good trait for us to cultivate. There's nothing worse than mutinous mutton! The shepherd may have to take drastic measures to keep that stubborn one safe.Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Excuses That Excuse

It may have been the Pharisee's dinner party, but Jesus brought the humble pie! In chapter 14 of his Gospel, Luke tells of a crazy supper. There was a game of musical chairs without the music, the Guest of Honor was in the crosshairs, and the host was gobsmacked. Oh, and a man was healed! And all of that drama set up an epic parable. Luke totally forgot to mention what they had to eat! Here's Pastor Jim to look at one final Story Jesus Told.

Measuring Success

When we talk about "The Rich Man and Lazarus," we're leaving someone out. Now, the rich fellow had never struck up a conversation with Lazarus while the two were alive - and apparently he didn't have any practice at talking to God, either. So in Hades he addresses himself to the man who seems to be in charge: Father Abraham. He's the third man in the story. Jesus spoke this illustration for the benefit of His disciples. So let's try to listen with fresh ears as Jim brings us Part 1 of, Measuring Success

Today we'll investigate the Parable of the Talents, with Jim.

More Cents Than Sense

What do you do when your barns are too small? It's a big problem! Never mind barns; I think my wife's closet is actually shrinking. And I've got to do something about that tiny garage! If there's any story of Jesus that we can identify with, it's the one we're about to hear from Luke 12. The rich farmer was having a good year, but he was about to have a bad night. He can be a warning to us. Pastor Jim says he had More Cents than Sense.

Shrewd Management

Jesus told us to be "wise as serpents, innocent as doves." We often get that backwards! Today we'll turn to the Parable of the Unjust Steward, or the Shrewd Manager. If this fellow had been wise he would have been a much better manager, and if he'd been smart he would have known that his shenanigans would get back to the master, eventually. But he has one trait that the Lord would like us to emulate!

Being a Disciple

We've learned about the cost of being a disciple; it's high. But what about the benefits? Some of us have been guilty of "selling" Christianity: telling people about the wonderful perks, and downplaying the challenges. Not Jesus! He has put the price in big, bold print right at the top. But let's not stop there. The benefits of following Christ are even more astonishing than the cost - or so it seems to many of us. Here's Jim to talk about Being a Disciple.

A Reasonable Decision

You're invited to a wedding! Today we'll hear a funny and thought-provoking skit, and we'll learn about Jesus' parable of the Wedding Feast. Whether we're considering the metaphor of the bride - the Bride of Christ - or we shift perspective to that of the wedding guests, we'll need to think hard about our commitment. What is required of us, to follow Jesus? Every relationship has costs, and this should be the highest relationship. Pastor Jim calls this sermon, A Reasonable Decision.

The Coming Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God is coming - but maybe not like you think it will! Time would fail us to talk about all the myths and misconceptions people have about the return of Christ. There are some really wild theories out there about everything from the Antichrist to Armageddon. Well, what if we listened to the Man Himself; that is, the Son of Man - the One who'll be doing the returning? Let's hear Jesus reveal the signs, and the fakery, to expect. Here's Jim with Part 1 of, The Coming Kingdom of God.
