Administration doesn't seem very important - until it's not getting done. It wasn't a doctrinal controversy or even a leadership scandal that threatened the solidarity of the new church; it was a supply chain issue! The solution was as elegant as it was effective. The priests were apoplectic! The guards were gobsmacked! When rich and powerful people see their positions being undermined, they don't just sit around and wait for the collapse. Oh, you had to be a big shot - didn't you? From pop song lyrics, I'll turn to the poet T.S. Eliot, who said, "Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important." That's the phenomenon we'll see played out in Acts, chapter 5, today. Ananias and Sapphira wanted the approval of men without paying the price, and forgot about the approval of God. When "what's in your wallet" is the same as what's in my wallet...because it's the same wallet. What happened to miracles? We spent some time recently investigating "What Happened to the Kingdom?" For their disobedience, God exiled Judah for 70 years. Imagine what they would have to do, to be banished for 19 centuries! On Friday we began to see that Peter's apparently random encounter with a lame man in the Temple, had great significance for Israel. The nation had brutally rejected their Messiah. But now, unimaginably, the King was extending His invitation one more time. And Jesus had foretold both the offer and the outcome in a parable.

What can you do when you're wrong, and everyone knows it? If you said, "Fess up, eat some crow, repent!" you came up with a different answer than the Jewish rulers did. When they couldn't deny that a miracle had occurred in the Temple, in the name of Jesus, they threatened the Apostles. Thankfully, the Christians did not respond in kind.
