Christians have something in common with Jesus - His nature! The King James translators gave us, "For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one...." So the question is, "all of one what?" That will become clear, we hope, as the program unfolds today. Our study of the potent book of Hebrews continues with the first half of the message, One for All, and All of One. This is part of the Good News that's so good, many people struggle with accepting it.

David looked at the stars and asked God, "What is man, that You even notice him?" It's a good question! Humans aren't very impressive. But redeemed men and women are the siblings of Jesus, the One who created the stars. We've been studying the book of Hebrews, and yesterday we had to pause a message called, The Age to Come. Can we be too focused on the Cross? Jesus is not on the Cross today; He's seated at the right hand of the Father. So, the author of Hebrews argues, fixing our eyes on Christ as He is now will help us understand God's plan for us in the future. We aren't just sharing in His suffering - we will share in His absolute dominion, too. Humans, or angels: Which one is higher in the hierarchy? Well, that depends on when you ask! We were created, the Bible says, "a little lower than the angels," but God has a promotion planned for us. On Friday we looked at Hebrews, chapter 1. The main point there is that the Son of God is greater than His creation, including angels. Let's pick up Jim's line of thought as he's mentioning two definitions of angels in Hebrews 1:7.

Angels are awe-inspiring beings. They're probably greater than most of us realize - but not compared to the Son! The author of Hebrews makes an airtight case for the superiority of Jesus over angels, and in the process he proves the deity of Christ...from the Old Testament. And that lays the foundation for the rest of the letter. On the program today, Pastor Jim will bring the first part of a message called Greater Than Gabriel. When Jesus spoke a word and quelled a tempest, He was only doing what He's been doing since Creation! He "upholds all things by His powerful word," as we're about to read in Hebrews. And that's just one of the characteristics that mark Jesus, and Jesus alone, as God-the-Son. Yesterday we saw that He is the Heir of all things; not a creature but active in Creation; and the Radiance of the glory of God. Today Jim will mark several more ideas on this wonderful list in Hebrews 1. We're looking at verse 3.

On the one side of the equation you have prophets and angels, a donkey, a burning bush, a mysterious hand...and on the other side of the equation you have Jesus. The Son is both the Messenger and the message. When we ask Him a question we know we won't get a vague answer corrupted by human error. When He speaks, we hear the voice of the Father, in all His authority. We're continuing our Hebrews series with a sermon called That's My Final Answer. When all else fails...read the instructions! We are so privileged, post-Gutenberg, to be able to own a copy of the Bible. And it's not banned (yet) where most of us are listening. What do we do with that immense benefit? Are we taking seriously the message God has given us? That's what Jim will ask us to think about today, with Part 2 of his message, No Escape. We're in the book of Hebrews, and we're ready for this famous passage in chapter 2, verses 1 through 4.
