Beyond The Beginning - Part 1 of 2

What was before time? If time began, then what does the word "before" mean, in a timeless state? And time did begin - the Bible's account and the "big bang" hypothesis agree on that much, at least. So what was before time? Or maybe we should ask, "Who was before time?" Today we begin a new series called Firm Foundations. It will take us all the way back to Genesis, to the very start...and then some. Here's the first part of Pastor Jim's message, Beyond the Beginning.

Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Right Start can also be heard on One Christian Radio 107.7FM & 87.6FM in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Babel: The Great Confusion

Before we leave our study of Genesis, we should look at one more divine intervention. At man's fall, God stepped into the timeline for our benefit. Later, when violence and wickedness became extreme on the earth, He once again involved Himself in history with the Great Flood. But sinners are a determined lot, and it wasn't long before we were unwittingly plotting our own ruin again. Today we'll look at the third heavenly intervention at the Tower of Babel. Here's Part 1 of Pastor Jim's message, Babel: The Great Confusion.

God's Commands Never Change

Neil Armstrong was not the first human to set foot on a new world - that was Noah, when he stepped off the ark. The Earth had been cleansed of its sin. It was a chance for man to start over. And God was going to lay down some new ground rules, with new promises. There was a new command, new conditions on the planet, and a new covenant. The Abrahamic covenant was still in the future. Here God spoke to the whole human race. Yes, the human race couldn't have fielded a baseball team, but that doesn't diminish the importance of the Lord's words. Here's Pastor Jim with Part 1 of, God's Commands Never Change.

The Waters Of The Flood

"All the fountains of the great deep [were] broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened." Water from below, water from above...and no escape except the one that had been rejected: the ark. In our study of Genesis we've come to the passage that explains the Great Flood. Science tells us "something happened," but the Word of God tells us what happened, when - and most importantly, why it happened. The lessons of this first worldwide judgment are too important for us not to learn.

Walking With God

What does it mean to "walk with God?" We toss around phrases like, "my walk with Christ," and "our daily walk." But we may not realize the significance of that metaphor. From the Garden of Eden, to the road to Emmaus, and on into eternity, God desires to have a kind of regular, casual fellowship with us that's pictured by two friends talking a stroll. And if we want to learn about walking with God, we need to study Enoch, the all-time world champion at that. Our Firm Foundations series moves forward with the opening of a new sermon by Pastor Jim, Walking with God.

The Reasons For The Flood

Was God justified in wiping out almost the entire human race in the Flood? Yes, and merciful, too. Man was on a downward spiral of sin, violence and corruption. People were living long lives of ever-increasing sin, "storing up wrath for the day of wrath." What's a loving God to do? His solution was decisive, imaginative...and totally necessary. Pastor Jim will tell us about The Reasons for the Flood, starting with a sobering personal story.

A Tale Of Two Lamechs

He was the best of men; he was the worst of men. Maybe that's the only way to open a sermon called, A Tale of Two Lamechs. As we continue through Genesis we read an account of early man that's supported by the physical evidence - it's just not the narrative we might find in a museum or a textbook today. Adam lived to see the earth well-populated with literate, civilized people. And these people knew their history because they could consult eyewitnesses. Lamech is the one name of two very different men.

The Heart Of The Problem

Where is this mean God I keep hearing about? So far in Genesis we've seen a loving Creator provide a covering for sin, and protect humans from total catastrophe. As we move to chapter 4, God proactively warns Cain against the dangerous path he's on. Here's Jim with the first part of his message, The Heart of the Problem.

God's Grace For Repentant Sinners

We're justified by grace through faith. But how was Adam justified? Would it surprise you to learn that God is entirely consistent? He imputed righteousness to Adam upon his confession, repentance and faith. The Creator covered sin with innocent blood, and credited right standing where he saw trust. The first sin was like all the others, and God's remedy was the same, too. Today Jim opens a new message from Genesis 3, God's Grace for Repentant Sinners, with a shocking statement. ...

Till You Return Unto The Ground

Warning: Sin May be Hazardous to Your Health. What if all temptation came with a warning label? Well, in a way it does - a sign so big we can miss it, even though it's all around us. It's the corruption of the created order. We've been examining Genesis 3, and so far we've studied God's sentence upon the serpent for his sin, and upon Eve for her sin; finally we get to Adam, the guy who really did know better. Here's Jim to open his sermon, Till You Return Unto the Ground.
