Babel: The Great Confusion - Part 2 of 2

God said, "spread out!" Nimrod said, "Dig in." Guess who won. Today Jim will conclude his sermon, Babel: The Great Confusion - which will complete our series in Genesis. And we'll break out of that great book of Beginnings to see what the Apostle Paul had to say about the meaning of all this. God's command to disperse wasn't arbitrary. As you might guess, His design was motivated by grace.

Babel: The Great Confusion - Part 1 of 2

Before we leave our study of Genesis, we should look at one more divine intervention. At man's fall, God stepped into the timeline for our benefit. Later, when violence and wickedness became extreme on the earth, He once again involved Himself in history with the Great Flood. But sinners are a determined lot, and it wasn't long before we were unwittingly plotting our own ruin again. Today we'll look at the third heavenly intervention at the Tower of Babel. Here's Part 1 of Pastor Jim's message, Babel: The Great Confusion.

God's Commands Never Change - Part 2 of 2

God's dealings with man, man's dealings with man, even man's dealings with animals - all relationships changed after the Flood. Yesterday Jim started to explain four truths that God gave Noah in Genesis, chapter 9. There was a renewed Command: "Be fruitful and multiply;" new Conditions, including divine sanction for eating meat; and a new Covenant. We'll hear more about that today. Finally, well learn about God's provision for justice on the earth, and how that relates to the heavenly justice to come. Here's Pastor Jim with the second part of his message, God's Commands Never Change.

God's Commands Never Change - Part 1 of 2

Neil Armstrong was not the first human to set foot on a new world - that was Noah, when he stepped off the ark. The Earth had been cleansed of its sin. It was a chance for man to start over. And God was going to lay down some new ground rules, with new promises. There was a new command, new conditions on the planet, and a new covenant. The Abrahamic covenant was still in the future. Here God spoke to the whole human race. Yes, the human race couldn't have fielded a baseball team, but that doesn't diminish the importance of the Lord's words. Here's Pastor Jim with Part 1 of, God's Commands Never Change.

The Waters Of The Flood - Part 2 of 2

There was room on the ark for more people. God saved 8 through the Flood, but He would have saved 80 or 800 - He would have saved all of them. He is "not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance," Peter declares. Jim will bring his sermon The Waters of the Flood to a conclusion today by comparing that past judgment to a future cataclysm. This is not a cute story for children; it is history. And it is a warning of things to come.

The Waters Of The Flood - Part 1 of 2

"All the fountains of the great deep [were] broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened." Water from below, water from above...and no escape except the one that had been rejected: the ark. In our study of Genesis we've come to the passage that explains the Great Flood. Science tells us "something happened," but the Word of God tells us what happened, when - and most importantly, why it happened. The lessons of this first worldwide judgment are too important for us not to learn.

Walking With God - Part 2 of 2

Noah was a man like us: he sinned. Yet God called him righteous. Some people claim that the Apostle Paul invented the doctrine of righteousness given as a gift, and received by faith - no works required. But today we'll find that in the Old Testament, all the way back in Genesis. Despite his flaws, Noah had faith as big as the ark. Yesterday we began a sermon called Walking with God. On today's Right Start, Jim will finish his thoughts centered around Genesis 6.

Walking With God - Part 1 of 2

What does it mean to "walk with God?" We toss around phrases like, "my walk with Christ," and "our daily walk." But we may not realize the significance of that metaphor. From the Garden of Eden, to the road to Emmaus, and on into eternity, God desires to have a kind of regular, casual fellowship with us that's pictured by two friends talking a stroll. And if we want to learn about walking with God, we need to study Enoch, the all-time world champion at that. Our Firm Foundations series moves forward with the opening of a new sermon by Pastor Jim, Walking with God.

The Reasons For The Flood - Part 2 of 2

Today we'll find extraterrestrials in the Bible - but they were not "little green men!" The alien invaders of our world didn't come from outer space, and they didn't attack with ray guns; they had a much more sinister method for conquering mankind. Today we'll resume the discussion Jim started on Friday, called The Reasons for the Flood. And whatever those reasons, we should always keep in mind that God has the right to do as He pleases with what is His own. In our Firm Foundations series we've come to Genesis, chapter 6.

The Reasons For The Flood - Part 1 of 2

Was God justified in wiping out almost the entire human race in the Flood? Yes, and merciful, too. Man was on a downward spiral of sin, violence and corruption. People were living long lives of ever-increasing sin, "storing up wrath for the day of wrath." What's a loving God to do? His solution was decisive, imaginative...and totally necessary. Pastor Jim will tell us about The Reasons for the Flood, starting with a sobering personal story.
