Our abilities are what they are. Or are they? Most of us are painfully aware of our limitations. Our talents and skills look small, compared to the challenges we face. But in Philippians, chapter 4, Paul seems to say that our abilities are not the only abilities available to us. We'd like to propose a new definition of God. The old descriptions of God still work fine, of course: the Self-Existent One, the Creator, the Ultimate Authority. But we can think of Him another way: God is the only being who has no limitations. He has no weaknesses, no inabilities, no deficiencies. If we were to really grasp that, what might happen to our prayer life? It certainly energized Paul's prayers, as we'll see today.

Are you worried about falling from grace? God has some promises for you. In our He is Able series we come to a very important ability of Jesus: He is able to keep you from falling. It's a gem we find tucked away in the bottom-right corner of the letter of Jude. And if you know Jude, you know he doesn't sugar-coat things! He says that there are false teachers in the church - sons of the Adversary who would very much like to see us stumble. So we'll all need this truth.

God is able! Well, yes, but what does that mean to me? "Omnipotence" is an answer for a Sunday School quiz; we may not feel the practical value of it on the bike ride home.
