If death is "Game Over," then God lied. "All these died in faith, not having received the promises," we read in Hebrews 11. So either the Almighty reneged on His word to His most devoted servants, or they weren't after their "best life now." There's something about shepherds. Before David became the leader of a nation, he was a leader of sheep. It was lowly herdsmen "abiding in the fields" who heard heaven's announcement of the Messiah's arrival. A shepherd has time to think and meditate on the words of God. And it's hard to develop a big ego, as a shepherd. The keeper-of-sheep Abel heads the list of those "approved by God" because of their faith. And he stands in stark contrast to his proud brother, Cain.

Faithful But Not Finished - Part 1 of 3

"Now, faith is..." - that sounds like we're going to get a definition, doesn't it? The King James reads: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." But it's hard to understand what that could mean. More recent translations propose, "...the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Would you like to be certified by God? Hebrews 11 gives us a list of Old Testament folks who received the divine seal of approval. And they all got that recognition the same way: by faith.
