"All's well that ends well." Today we'll wrap up our Daniel series with Part 2 of The God Who Closes Well. We've seen that Daniel's prophecies are so exact, and so accurate, that scoffers say they were written after the fact. But some of the events haven't happened yet, and that's what we're looking at in Chapter 12. Our God will Rescue - not always from the trial, but through the trial; He will Resurrect everyone - but that's not good news for everyone; and He will Reward everyone. These words weren't written for readers in 500 BC; this part of the book was written to us.

The most soul-crushing defeats are those that look like certain victory until 2 seconds before the buzzer. God is going to serve the devil the most bitter loss of all eternity. As the clock ticks down on this human contest, it will seem like Satan is about to be crowned the world champion, and God's team is going down to humiliating defeat. If God were not patient, this would have all been over, long ago. We've been seeing that God knows the future because He has "determined" the future. But if God is in control at the level of the smallest details, doesn't that make Him responsible for sin? How do Christians who believe in a sovereign God answer that question? Our present age is like a train: it may seem to go slower or faster, but it's always "on track." For the original readers of Daniel's book, 2500 years ago, everything predicted in what we call "chapter 11" was in the future. The train has moved past most of these events now, and we can see that it has stopped at every station. We learn from Daniel's heavenly Visitor that the future, like the past, is already written. This train will reach its destination.

Christian, you are involved in combat. But you're not fighting alone! In "the good fight," as Paul called it, we have many unseen soldiers fighting with us. We don't command them, but God dispatches them when we pray. That's the "insider's view" of spiritual warfare that we get from reading Daniel, Chapter 10. Daniel had already been visited by an angel. Now, Someone greater than an angel was here. The final revelation given to Daniel was the greatest of all. It was by far the most detailed, and the encounter with this Messenger was physically overwhelming. We'll read about it in the last 3 chapters of his book. The prophet was terrified. He must have felt very undignified with his face in the dirt, but he learned that Heaven held him in high regard. Pastor Jim has Part 1 of The God Who Answers.

What's the best promise God could give us? If we really could dream any dream for ourselves, our loved ones, our world, wouldn't it be for an end of sin? Human nature finally cured of its terminal disease? That was the promise given to Daniel through an angel. It focuses on the people of Israel, but we know it has a broader application. When the angel Gabriel appeared to Daniel in his prayer room, he brought good news, and bad news. I'm sure you can think of many times in Scripture when God sent a word of judgment and a message of mercy in the same envelope. He's not going to sweep our bad behavior under the rug; but He does have better things in store for us. The promise to Daniel was better than Israel could have hoped - but it had a dark side, as well. Today Jim will open a sermon from Daniel, Chapter 9, called, The God Who Promises.

Some say the universe is without purpose. God says He has a plan. "What's all this leading to?" The Grand Designer is happy to share His plans with us, if we'll listen. Daniel's prophecies are too accurate, some say. In our series on Daniel's God we've come to Chapter 7, and a dream about four successive world empires. He was seeing hundreds of years into the future. But from our vantage point, thousands of years later, critics have a hard time dealing with the precision of his predictions. Someone must have written these after the fact. Or could it be that God knows the future as well as He knows the past - and everything else? Here's Pastor Jim.
