You've heard the phrase, "truth, or consequences." Maybe that should be "truth and consequences." Let's face it, any road we take is a toll road. Ignorance carries some heavy costs, but there's a price to pay for having knowledge, too. Yesterday Jim began to lay out some of the responsibilities, or dangers, we accept "after being enlightened," as the author of Hebrews put it. Jim said that once we've accepted the truth we have a responsibility for "purity," or holiness. Now he'll mention two more dangers.

It's possible to take God's grace for granted, and to get ourselves so completely turned around that we actually become His adversaries again. And when we disregard the blood of His Son like that, the Father takes it personally. The writer uses the words like "outrage" and "indignation." Taking The Action To A Higher Address - Part 1 of 2

The blood of animals could only cover sin. Jesus' blood erases sin! We sometimes speak of the "Atonement," meaning Christ's sacrifice, but a better word is Propitiation. It means that, by the death of our Substitute, our debt of sin is paid, and God's wrath is turned away. As we start a new week with a new sermon, the author of Hebrews continues to hammer his point: that the old sacrificial system was a mere shadow of what Jesus has done for us.
