Grounding our belief system in the self-sufficiency of God opens our understanding, and protects us from several errors. The God of the Bible is not only self-existent, as we said yesterday, but self-sufficient. Since He needs nothing from us, He can't be coerced or bribed. He's not like one of the idols who can be manipulated with gifts or a magical combination of words. We'd better learn who He is because He's not going to change!

And He exists in a different, more true or more complete way than the way we exist; our lives depend on Him, while His life depends on no one.
