When we connect the ideas of "glory" and "death" we might think of a soldier dying in battle. Or anyone sacrificing himself to save others. But there's much more glory to go around! Those who fall asleep in Jesus find that it's not the end, but a new beginning; not failure, but fulfillment; not punishment, but transformation! A king was about to fall - but which one? In the Upper Room Jesus gave a lot of deep, "inside information" to His faithful few. He promised them the Holy Spirit, and explained what He would do. He taught about the more distant future, in heaven. And He revealed what He was about to accomplish on the Cross: not defeat and humiliation, but glorious victory over the "ruler of this world." We often talk about death as a destination - like a ship pulling in to the harbor. But the Bible writers called it a "departure." The journey is just beginning for the one who dies in Christ! We could say that Paul's death began on the road to Damascus. We've been talking about the art of dying, and there are some great masters of that art in the Bible. Paul was one of them. How does Peter go out? Teaching. Peter leaves this world not crying or complaining, but exhorting and encouraging those who would carry on.
