The Pharisees and other religionists offer a system. Jesus brings a gift. People today are just like the people of the first century: we can't believe that God is serious about His standards. He must be grading on a curve, He must be exaggerating for effect - or else no one could measure up. And that doesn't make sense. The Pharisees thought their rules had raised the bar of holiness, but Jesus said they had actually lowered it. Let's join Jim in Matthew 5 for Part 1 of the sermon, Promises Made to be Kept.
